Gabi Blum

In 2014 I did a happening with a Saloon façade in a gallery. I did it three times and invited many other artists and performers to act in this scenario (http://gabiblum.de/SALOON.html). Saloon No 1 was a kind of Double Feature, because I built two similar Saloons vis-à-vis in the gallery. The first part of the evening happened in the first Saloon and the second part of the evening in the second Saloon. Joe Masi (https://www.joemasi.de), a musician and friend of mine, did a recording of the evening on tape. He broadcast the sound of one Saloon to the other, and back, and recorded an eightfold crosstalk. I think this is a nice memory of a work of mine and a good sound travel experience. Enjoy!

Bio

Gabi Blum is an artist, activist and curator who lives and works in Munich, Germany. She studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich at Prof. Stephan Huber’s class and was part of the class of visiting professor Schorsch Kamerun. For her diploma in 2014 she developed a re-enactment of a painting by Edward Hopper. In 2015 Blum received the Bavarian Art Award and the Debutantenförderung by the Bavarian State Government and in 2017 she traveled with an USA scholarship to Seattle, Detroit and Chicago. Her work combines walk-in installations, performance and painting with video. Blums performances have a kind of ritualistic quality and sometimes she is celebrating the end of the world and other chaos scenarios. Sometimes her performances are very silent and long lasting and she repeats every day routines like peeling potatoes. Additionally, Blum works with images of the stereotypical perception of women, including the secretary, model, cowgirl, snake woman or showgirl.
